Businesses are reopening across the Brainerd Lakes Area. You may wonder what’s open and what to expect. As we reopen, our mission is to help build trust among our community and prevent the spread of the virus. When you visit our businesses, you’ll find new safety protocols around wearing masks (strongly recommended and in some cases required), keeping 6 ft of distance, and washing hands and surfaces.

What noncritical businesses can be open and the requirements come from the Department of Employment and Economic Development. The Stay Safe MN Plan has the phased openings by sector.

Restaurants are open! Restaurants can offer indoor and outdoor dining. If you’re planning to go out to eat, you’ll need to plan ahead. Reservations are required. Occupancy is limited to 50%, not to exceed 250 people in indoor and outdoor settings (each). Tables can have no more than 4 people or 6 people from the same family. Tables should be spaced 6 ft apart. Restaurants still can provide take out and delivery if you’re not comfortable dining on-site.

Supporting your favorite local store or finding that one-of-a-kind souvenir just got a little easier. Retail shops, including boutiques and downtown shopping areas, are open at 50% capacity.

Personal care settings, which includes hair, nail, and tanning salons; day spas; tattoo parlors, and barbershops are open at 50% occupancy. Social distancing (6 ft apart) and masks are required.

Outdoor recreation is open! We have ample outdoor recreation options. It’s a great way to get a change of scenery and reduce stress. You can go biking, kayaking, fishing, and birding. If you’re visiting, you can rent bikes and kayaks. You can take a guided fishing trip (limited to 1 or 2 people being guided at a time) or a boat charter. You’ll find boat landings are open. See the DNR’s FAQs for more information.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, you’ll find availability at lodging properties across lake country. Resorts, hotels, and campgrounds are open. Pools, waterparks, and beaches are open. People should social distance and keep 6 ft apart.

Golf was one of the first organized activities allowed to reopen. Luckily for us, we’re a top golf destination in the country. Nowhere else will you find so many golf courses so close together that offer a variety of playability.

Churches and places worship are can hold religious services, weddings, and funerals (indoors and outdoors). Services have a 50% occupancy and can’t exceed 250 people. Distancing of 6 ft is also required.
